10 cp Prerequisites YSED202 Practicum 2: Youth Work Placement and YSED204 Case Management in Youth Work) Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week for twelve weeks or equivalent. A variety of formats will be used throughout the course of this unit, including lectures, workshops, student presentations and guest speakers.
This unit will cover issues of social change in youth work by exploring community development, participation and advocacy. It will provide a range of tools youth workers can use in community development, supporting community action, advocating on behalf of young people and fostering young peoples participation. The focus will be on developing competencies in assessing and responding to the needs of young people, further developing advocacy skills, facilitating young peoples participation in social change, and the strategic development, coordination and delivery of relevant youth service responses. The unit analyses the changing context and core concepts of participation, major models and methods of practice and practical techniques for involving young people in organisations, communities and social change.
