The unit provides students with foundation studies relating to the social and emotional well-being of young people. Students will gain an understanding of key definitions and theoretical constructs. They will examine the importance of the development of life skills and appropriate management of feelings and moods typical of the adolescent period. Students will explore issues of diversity, marginalisation, alienation, inclusion, culture and identity. The unit also focuses on examining processes for increasing supportive environments, community capacity and empowerment, while providing students with an appreciation of social justice, an understanding of equity and a respect for the human being.
