This unit of study will enable preservice teachers to develop an understanding of current trends in music education. They will learn about philosophies and policy bases for a variety of music education approaches that underpin music curricula. The focus is on music education as it applies to the beginning years of secondary schooling. Studies will also concentrate on the development of music performance, composition, listening, notation and technology skills in a range of music styles. Preservice teachers will develop skills in researching, planning, implementing and evaluating music lessons and programs.
