EDMA630 Teaching and Learning Mathematics in the Middle Years
This unit is designed to focus on mathematics and numeracy in the middle years of schooling. Participants will compare and contrast their local situation with global research studies on mathematics education and consider the implications for classrooms on such issues as differentiation of curriculum, interdisciplinary approaches, differences in experiences of students, language use, social division, and transition. Seminal and contemporary research literature to inform misconceptions in key areas will be discussed and critiqued. Pedagogies to support and extend students understanding will be investigated.
