This unit is designed to establish a definition of numeracy including working mathematically and critical numeracy problem solving. The implications of contemporary theory and research for classroom practice in numeracy education will be carefully reviewed and evaluated along with relevant syllabus documents. Students will develop and apply advanced strategies for the explicit teaching of numeracy involving whole class, group and individual instruction, focusing on children's development of concepts, skills and understandings in number, measurement and space.
