This unit acknowledges the critical role educators play in quality of early learning experiences that promote and support young children’s well-being and on-going educational outcomes. The Professional Experience Program will provide early years educators with an opportunity to consider the links between theory, practice and professional learning and accountability. This unit specifically addresses National Professional Standards for Teaching that relate to the complexities of pedagogical practice (including the early years of schooling), building collaborative relationships, documentation, curriculum decision making, teaching strategies, classroom management and guidance strategies and social contexts that inform high quality learning environments. The unit will build upon and investigate theoretical perspectives of teaching practice and implementation to establish and maintain effective learning environments. Early years educators will develop a critical understanding of approaches to teaching and learning through engaging with research, scholarship and centre-based professional experience. The implementation of communication and interpersonal skills will be addressed within the early years of schooling through interactions with children, staff and parents.
