EDFX513 Graduate Professional Experience Secondary 3
Prerequisites EDFX511 Graduate Professional Practice Secondary1 and EDFX512 Graduate Professional Practice Secondary 2
This practicum consists of observation, preparation and supervised school-based professional experience that facilitates the induction of preservice teachers into the profession. The practicum focuses on the identification of the professional roles of the teacher as reflector, thinker, learner, and investigator, and as an integral member of a school community. This unit of the Master of Teaching is undertaken by preservice teachers in the final year of their degree and provides intensive preparation for preservice teachers about to graduate and seek employment in the teaching profession.
The practicum allows principals, school Professional Experience Program (PEP) coordinators, associate teachers and preservice teachers to work collaboratively with the University to challenge, develop, assess and extend the abilities of preservice teachers. In conjunction with other units in the program it also provides opportunities for school-based study and action research and the development of closer links between theoretical considerations and the teaching and learning experiences encountered in schools.
