EDFD675 Leadership and Management in Early Years Education
This unit focuses on leadership theory and research and the interpersonal relationships and managerial skills required for effective leadership, administration, and management of early learning contexts. Students will be introduced to a range of relevant national and state policies in various care and education sectors and the organisational administration and management practices pertinent to maintaining and delivering high quality early learning and care. This will include pedagogical and curriculum leadership, fiscal and management skills, funding and budgeting skills, evaluating, report writing for excellence in service provision, leadership styles, legal issues, industrial awards, time and resource management, human resource management, regulatory requirements, financial management, insurance, professional organisations, cultural diversity, standards for care facilities, and the associated roles and responsibilities. Reference will be made to the ethical, moral and legal imperatives that guide any work with young children and the leadership and advocacy roles implicit in early childhood education and care settings.
