EDFD665 Developing Historical, Geographical, Religious and Political Constructions of Children’s Identifies
This unit will critically engage with both historical and contemporary constructions of children’s identity. Particular attention will be given to a range of perspectives that discuss historical, geographical, religious and political content that is relevant to the education and care contexts. A range of contemporary pedagogical approaches to supporting children’s identity constructions will be explored. An emphasis on theory and research, with practical application to pedagogy and curriculum, will inform pre-service teacher engagement in this unit. Contemporary pedagogical approaches and curriculum content that focus on children’s experiences of personal, family and community identity, diversity and history will be examined. Specific reference will be given to Indigenous children and children with disabilities and those experiencing marginalisation.
