EDFD664 International Baccalaureate (Primary Years Program)
This unit will introduce students to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (IB/PYP) Framework (and international schooling more generally) through the inquiry-based learning used as the pedagogical underpinning of the PYP. Children in the 21st century are faced with the challenge of learning about an interconnected world where knowledge is constantly developing. The IBO/PYP supports children to be active participants in a lifelong journey of learning. IB programs offer learning communities the opportunity to inquire, act and reflect on concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. Strong connections are made to the concepts citizenship and shared guardianship of the planet. These ideas are embedded in the day to day experiences of the children. By ‘living these values’ foundations are laid for the commitment to make the world a better and more peaceful place. Links to other approaches to curriculum such as Problem Based Learning and Reggio Emilia will be discussed.
