EDFD624 Perspectives and Issues in Education (Pakistan)
This foundation unit allows students to understand both Western and Islamic traditions of educational philosophy giving students an opportunity to see how philosophical ideas provide a foundation and ground for educational theory and practices. The unit establishes a theory-praxis nexus and allows students to appreciate how educational practices can be guided by authentic notions. This task is accomplished through introducing different philosophical perspectives on education which provide a basis for making decisions about aims, content, pedagogy and assessment. Developing students’ critical understanding paves the way for constructive transformation of educational theory and practice and an insight into how education is related to human existence, human development and human culture and civilization collectively.
