This unit introduces students to a holistic approach to developmental psychology.
The aim of this unit is to assist students to develop an understanding of the physical, cognitive and psychosocial aspects of child and adolescent development with particular relevance to the school years. Students will examine the developing persons perspective of the world about them with specific reference to family, school, peers, culture and diverse social contexts. Significant models of development will be introduced and illuminated by relevant classic and current theory and research. Lectures and tutorials will actively engage the student in a range of learning activities that encourage the development of a critical reflective approach to learning.
