This unit aims to provide students with the tools and techniques to engage safely in therapeutic play with children and adolescents. The theory and principles underlying play therapy will be presented, along with the introduction of particular models and techniques of working therapeutically through play. Students will learn how to assess and intervene taking into account the ethical considerations such as duty of care, confidentiality and maintaining boundaries. Experiential learning will be integral to this unit to support the integration of theory with practice, this will include role plays, and self reflective processes to enhance self awareness at both the verbal and non verbal level.
