In this unit students will explore a range of worldview perspectives and different spiritualities and examine how they influence human beliefs and life practices. Explicit and implicit worldview assumptions from east and west will be identified and critiqued especially in the light of their influence on individual, social and cultural identity. Spirituality will be a key focus of the unit being recognised as a fundamental dimension of humanness and one which intersects with worldview assumptions and cultural traditions. The importance of spirituality in human experience will be emphasised particularly spiritual practices which are deemed to be therapeutic in nature. Students will explore how best to work within the worldview and spiritual traditions of clients and to reflect upon how spiritual beliefs and practices and counselling theory and practice find points of integration.
