10 cp Prerequisites 40 cp from units in Visual Arts and Design Teaching Organisation Lectures, tutorials, or seminars and industry meetings supporting and preparing an internship in selected workplace settings. 105 hours placement or three weeks or equivalent part-time.
The Community Internship unit enables students to contribute to the profession and community in tangible ways. In this unit students are required to undertake an internship as a volunteer in areas around visual art, graphic design, cultural criticism, art historical studies, crafts, museums or gallery operations. The unit will provide an ethical and professional focus for students as they prepare for a diversity of careers in visual arts and design. A person within the chosen organisation will function as a mentor. The student will prepare a work proposal. This proposal must be approved by both the University and the mentor before the commencement of the volunteer work.
