PUBH611 - Health Promotion
Teaching Organisation 150 hours of focused learning.
Understanding the theory and application of health promotion is integral to the work of a public health practitioner, and the improvement of population health and wellbeing. In this unit, students will be introduced to various evidence-based health promotion frameworks, models and methods, along with theories of behaviour change and health behaviour models. Measurement of impact and effectiveness of health promotion programs, critical appraisal of current health promotion policies/initiatives and debates within health promotion practice will also be considered. The unit will also emphasise the importance of contextual issues in health promotion, along with partnership, participation, change and capacity. Emergent issues and approaches in health promotion, such as use of digital media, and examples of best-worst-practice in health promotion, will also be considered. The unit will then take a practice-oriented approach, where students will apply their understanding by critiquing current health promotion practice, and then developing their own health promotion initiative.
