HIST330 - Contemporary World History
Prerequisites: At least two History units at advanced (200/300) level
Incompatibles: HIST226 Contemporary World History
Teaching Organisation Two hours of lecture and one hour of tutorial supplemented with online activities (or equivalent)
Duration 3 hours of classtime per week for 12 weeks or equivalent
This unit will survey the ethnic, social, political, religious, economic and technological forces which have shaped the contemporary world since 1945. Students will examine issues such as the rise of nationalism and the break-up of European colonial empires, the emergence of the developing countries, ideological, ethnic and religious conflict, globalisation and the role of charismatic leaders. Case studies will be used, deriving from topics not covered in-depth in other History units.
