EDFD140 - Foundations of Learning
Teaching Organisation: Nil
Through this unit pre-service teachers will develop a sound understanding of learning, thinking, motivation and development and the application of this knowledge in educational contexts. The unit begins by exploring how psychology and educational research can inform teacher practice. It encourages participants to think critically about their conceptions of learning and teaching. Pre-service teachers study a range of relevant learning theories to help them understand their own and others learning. Thus this unit enables pre-service teachers to gain knowledge for their central professional task of constructing effective learning environments. Particular emphasis is placed on relevant aspects of the learner, the teacher and their interrelationships as well as learner differences. As part of their studies, pre-service teachers will work in groups as learning communities. Experiences in the unit will assist pre-service teachers in developing strategies to help children and themselves to become more effective learners.
