Prerequisites 10 cp from 100-level units in International Development Studies
This is a specified unit for the Bachelor of International Development Studies and is available as an elective or as part of a minor sequence for students in the Bachelor of Arts. Knowledge and skills surrounding project management are needed for graduates to undertake project-based work in the development sector.
Effective project management is vital to ensuring the success of on-ground development projects. Project-based work is used extensively in local and international development and this unit extends previous learnings to provide students with practical skills to enable them to work effectively in a project environment. This practical subject explores the role of projects and project managers in the local and international development field, working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Students will understand the key principles and practices involved in managing development projects throughout the project life-cycle, from the initial stages of planning and applying for funding through to evaluation.
The aim of this unit is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to undertake and evaluate development projects across their life cycle.
