EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy that includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.
Assumed knowledge includes minimum requirements in English and Mathematics as well as in intended teaching area to be studied.
In addition applicants will be required to:
- demonstrate suitability for teaching;
- meet any additional prerequisite requirements imposed by state jurisdictions.
Applicants who do not meet state jurisdictional minimum requirements will be able to undertake approved alternative entry pathways.
International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed:
- Prerequisites: Nil
- Assumed knowledge: A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English
Note: This course is structured to allow applicants to meet the three Band 5 entry requirements within the degree program by including a full year of discipline studies before applicants study how to teach.

2. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Definitions
“Major”: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp from 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level.
“Minor”: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 40 cp from Education Studies Units;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies Units;
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units;
- 10 cp from Education Electives;
- 30 cp Professional Experience Unit; and
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum Units
- 0 cp from LNTE110 Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic and LNTE111 Literacy and Numeracy Test
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
- 100 cp from: 80 cp Technology Major and 20 cp of Technology Electives to extend the major;
- 40 cp from Computing minor;
- 10 cp from Core Arts Unit: COMM170;
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum Units.
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
5. Admission Requirements for the Honours Degree
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the Honours degree a student must have
- completed 160 credit points from all units in Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts; and
- maintained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 across all units in Years 1 and 2 of the course.
6. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must
- Qualify for admission to the Honours Degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 350 cp consisting of:
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:
- 40 cp from Education Studies units
- 20 cp from Curriculum Studies Core units
- 20 cp from Curriculum Studies Electives
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program units
- 30 cp from Professional Experience unit
- 40 cp from Honours units
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum units
- 0 cp from LNTE110 Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic and LNTE111 Literacy and Numeracy Test
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as stipulated above.
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
7. Exit Point
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of a course listed below may exit from the course with that qualification. Note that none of these qualifications qualify a student to teach in Australia.
