1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy that includes meeting a minimum ATAR requirement.
Assumed knowledge includes minimum requirements in English and Mathematics as well as in intended teaching area to be studied.
In addition applicants will be required to:
- demonstrate suitability for teaching;
- meet any additional prerequisite requirements imposed by state jurisdictions.
Applicants who do not meet state jurisdictional minimum requirements will be able to undertake approved alternative entry pathways.
International applicants need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.
New South Wales
- Prerequisites: Nil
- Assumed knowledge:
- A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English
- Mathematics discipline: Mathematics (other than Mathematics General 2)
Note: This course is structured to allow applicants to meet the three Band 5 entry requirements within the degree program by including a full year of discipline studies before applicants study how to teach.
Victoria
- Prerequisites:
- English: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English
- Mathematics: Units 1 and 2: two units (any study combination) of General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods or Specialist Mathematics or Units 3 and 4: Mathematics (any)
- Assumed Knowledge: Mathematics discipline: Units 3 and 4: Mathematical Methods.

2. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Definitions
"Major": 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200-level and at least 20 cp from 300-level.
"Minor": 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 70 cp from Education Studies units
- 10 cp from Education Elective unit
- 20 cp from Curriculum Studies Specified units
- 20 cp from Curriculum Studies Elective units
- 30 cp Professional Experience unit
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum unit
- 0 cp from LNTE110 Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic and LNTE111 Literacy and Numeracy Test
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
- 80 cp from 1 Major in Mathematics
- 40 cp from 1 Arts Minor2
- 10 cp from Specified Arts Unit
- 20 cp from other units in the Bachelor of Arts degree which may be:
- 20 cp from advanced level units in the discipline area of the Mathematics Major or Arts Minor making an extended Major or Minor;
or - 20 cp from Arts Elective units
- 20 cp from advanced level units in the discipline area of the Mathematics Major or Arts Minor making an extended Major or Minor;
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum unit
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
5. Admission Requirements for the Honours Degree3
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the Honours degree a student must have
- completed 160 credit points from all units in Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts; and
- maintained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 across all units in Years 1 and 2 of the course.
6. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must
- Qualify for admission to the Honours Degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 350 cp consisting of:
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:
- 70 cp from Education Studies units
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies units
- 30 cp from Professional Experience units
- 40 cp from Honours units
- 10 cp from Core Curriculum unit
- 0 cp from LNTE110 Literacy and Numeracy Diagnostic and LNTE111 Literacy and Numeracy Test
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as stipulated above.
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide, unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator.
7. Exit Point
A student who has successfully completed the requirements of a course listed below may exit from the course with that qualification. Note that none of these qualifications qualify a student to teach in Australia.

- Identified Honours applicants who fulfil the admission criteria will be invited to enrol into three Honours units (40 cp) in Year 3 and 4. These students will complete a 350 cp degree with EDRS401 Honours 1 (10 cp) taking the place of the Education Elective (10 cp), and two additional units EDRS402 Honours 2 (10 cp) and EDRS503 Honours 3 (20 cp).
- Arts majors and minors must be in the discipline areas in which the Curriculum Studies units are undertaken.
- Students completing the Honours degree will graduate with the Bachelor of Teaching (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics).
- Subject to permission from Course Coordinators.
- Students intending to teach in Catholic schools in Victoria only.
- 20 cp are to be taken from the one Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) area which builds on discipline minor sequence already taken.
