This unit is designed to introduce you to the Australian health care system, and to provide a context for your studies in health sciences. It will explore common social, geographic, and cultural factors related to the health needs of and services for individuals, groups and communities. Health promotion, innovation in health care and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) health issues will be a major focus. Contemporary issues will be explored in the context of health professionals and the challenges they face. You will have the opportunity to investigate factors that influence health care, identify the rights of health consumers in Australia and build on the language related to health care.
The aim of this unit is to familiarise you with the Australian health care system and broader aspects of public health.
