Prerequisites ACCT100 Principles of Accounting
Teaching Organisation This unit is taught in both online, asynchronous mode and face to face mode. The unit consists of 12 topics presented over 12 weeks and in the face to face mode each topic will consist of a two hour lecture and two one hour tutorials. The tutorial formats will be focused on practical problem solving. Both formats will include three hour examination conducted on site. Students will be encouraged to discuss their own critical analysis of real business scenarios.
This unit is designed for managers who are not accountants but need to be able to engage with Accountants to resolve issues that are best informed by financial analysis. The emphasis is not so much on creating accounting information but rather its interpretation. Emphasis in assessment will be on the ability to make decisions on the basis of accounting information and justify them making reference to Accounting terms. Topics will include preparation of financial statements, analysis and interpretation of financial reports, budgetary planning and control, cost analysis for management decisions and cost-volume-profit analysis.
