EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed an undergraduate degree in any discipline.
2. Completion Requirements
2.1 To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, including:
- in the case of a student seeking to qualify for a named specialisation:
- 20 cp from the Foundation Units, OR if introductory Biblical Studies and Theology units have been undertaken as part of previous studies, 20 cp from other units from the schedule of offerings
- at least 80 cp from units from the named specialisation, which may include project and/or special studies units where the content and assessment clearly relate to the area of the specialisation;
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B, if not selected in accordance with Rule 2.1 (a) (ii);
- 10 cp from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research;
- the balance from other units.
- in any other case:
- 20 cp from the Foundation Units, OR if introductory Biblical Studies and Theology units have been undertaken as part of previous studies, 20 cp from other units from the schedule of offerings;
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B;
- 10 from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research;
- the balance from other units;
or
2.2 A student entering the degree having previously completed one of:
- the Bachelor of Theology (or equivalent);
- the Bachelor of Arts with a Theological Studies or Study of Religions Major (or equivalent);
- the Bachelor of Education (Primary) including studies successfully undertaken to meet requirements for Accreditation to Teach Religious Education (or equivalent);
- the Graduate Certificate in Theological Studies, Graduate Certificate in Catholic Studies, Graduate Certificate in Religious Education, or equivalent; or
must complete 120 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, including:
- in the case of a student seeking to qualify for a named specialisation:
- 20 cp from the Foundation Units, OR if introductory Biblical Studies and Theology units have been undertaken as part of previous studies, 20 cp from other units from the schedule of offerings;
- at least 60 cp from units in the named specialisation, which may include project and/or special studies units where the content and assessment clearly relate to the area of the specialisation;
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B, if not selected in accordance with Rule 2.2 (a) (ii);
- 10 cp from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research;
- the balance from other units;
or - In any other case:
- 20 cp from the Foundation Units, OR if introductory Biblical Studies and Theology units have been undertaken as part of previous studies, 20 cp from other units from the schedule of offerings;
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B;
- 10 cp from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research;
- the balance from other units;
2.3 A student entering the degree having previously met the requirements for one of:
- the Bachelor of Theology (Honours) (or equivalent); or
- the Graduate Diploma in Theological Studies (or equivalent);
must complete 80 cp from 600 level units in the Schedule of Unit Offerings, including:
- in the case of a student seeking to qualify for a named specialisation:
- at least 40 cp from units in the named specialisation, which may include project and/or special studies units where the content and assessment clearly relate to the area of the specialisation;
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B, if not selected in accordance with Rule 2.3 (a) (i);
- 10 cp from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research, if no research methods unit has been undertaken at AQF level 8;
- the balance from other units;
or - in any other case:
- 20 cp from THEL623 Theology Project C or PHIL618 Philosophy Project B;
- 10 cp from THEL619 Introduction to Theological and Philosophical Research, if no research methods unit has been undertaken at AQF level 8;
- the balance from other units.
3. Course Progression
In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the Head of School.
4. Exit Point
A student who has completed the requirements for the Graduate Diploma in Theological Studies or Graduate Certificate in Theological Studies may exit with that award.
