* Students will normally be located at the North Sydney Campus. However, some units may be undertaken at the Strathfield Campus.
EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
International students need to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements as defined in the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed:
- the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
Australian Capital Territory
- Major in English (T), minimum B grade; and Major in Mathematics (T), minimum C grade and Science (T), (any).
- Additional requirement for mathematics discipline studies: Major-Minor in Specialist Mathematics (T), minimum C grade.
New South Wales
- *Mathematics (any), Science (any)
- a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English; or
- HSC results and successfully completed bridging units benchmarked to HSC Band 5 results; or
- have completed a BOSTES approved alternative entry pathway; or
- achieved the published entry rank and subsequently pass a full year of academic studies in subjects in which the applicant intends to teach.
Queensland
- At least Sound Achievement in the current QCAA Authority Subject of Senior English or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction; and
- At least Sound Achievement in Mathematics QCAA Mathematics A and/or B and/or C or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction.
- At least Sound Achievement in a QCAA Authority Science subject or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction.
Victoria
- Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English, and a study score of at least 25 in Mathematics (any), and a study score of at least 25 in Science (any).
* For study in Mathematics, Year 12 Mathematics other than General Mathematics (NSW) or Units 3 and 4 – Mathematical Methods (Victoria) is assumed.
- Alternative pathways to be approved via national ITE accreditation processes and/or via the relevant jurisdictional teacher regulatory authorities.

2. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Definitions
'Major': 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200 level and at least 20 cp from 300 level. For Bachelor of Science students specified units can count toward major.
“Minor”: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level. For Bachelor of Science students specified units can count toward minor.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the double degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Units in the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- Students completing with a minor study in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Science
- 40 cp from Education Studies
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies (20 cp related to first teaching area and 20 cp related to second teaching area)
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 20 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit
- Students completing with a minor study in Mathematics or Psychology
- 40 cp from Education Studies
- 50 cp from Curriculum Studies (30 cp related to first teaching area and 20 cp related to second teaching area)
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 10 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit
- Students completing with a minor study in Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Science
- 150 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Science degree, consisting of1:
- At least 50 cp Foundation units in the science disciplines, (including two 1XX level chemistry units, two 1XX biology units, one 1xx physics unit);
- 20 cp of either 1XX earth and environment units, 1XX mathematics units or 1XX psychology units;
- 40 cp from advanced units in the discipline of the first teaching area (Biology, Chemistry or Earth and Environmental Studies), including 20 cp at 3XX level;
- 20 cp from advanced units in the discipline of the second teaching area (Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Studies, Mathematics or Psychology);
- 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Units.
- 10 cp Core Arts unit.
Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
5. Progression within the course
Students will normally need to complete a unit or units at an introductory level (100-level) in an approved sequence before undertaking advanced level units (200 or 300-level).
In all aspects of progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the School Committee.
