- Major in English (T), minimum B grade; and Major in Mathematics (T), minimum C grade.

- a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English; or
- HSC results and successfully completed bridging units benchmarked to HSC Band 5 results; or
- have completed a BOSTES approved alternative entry pathway: or
- achieved the published entry rank and subsequently pass a full year of academic studies in the subjects in which the applicant intends to teach.
Queensland
- At least Sound Achievement in the current QCAA Authority Subject of Senior English; and
- At least Sound Achievement in Mathematics (QCAA Mathematics A and/or B and/or C or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction; and
- At least Sound Achievement in a QCAA Authority Science subject or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction.
Victoria
- Minimum of Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.
OR
- Entry via an alternative pathway as advised by ACU.1
OR - Applicants of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent may be selected following an interview with the course coordinator and staff of the campus Indigenous Higher Education Unit. They should have:
- a minimum of three years’ work experience; or
- completion of year 12 or equivalent; or
- demonstrated relevant tertiary study skills or successful completion of a Tertiary Communication Skills program.
2. Additional Approvals
Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld) or Working with Children Check (ACT, NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. To meet the requirements for working in settings other than schools, a National Police check may be required. All students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
(1) 360 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Foundation Studies;
- 110 cp from Education Studies;
- 110 cp from Curriculum Studies;
- 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Units
- 40 cp from Discipline Minor
- 30 cp from Discipline extension or electives
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree with accreditation to teach Religious Education in Catholic, Anglican or Lutheran schools 2
To qualify for the degree and accreditation to teach Religious Education in Catholic, Anglican or Lutheran schools a student must complete:
(1) 360 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Foundation Studies
- 110 cp from Education Studies
- 110 cp from Curriculum Studies
- 10 cp from University Core Units
- 50 cp from Religious Education Discipline Minor, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Religious Education; and
- 30 cp from Theology or
30 cp from Lutheran Education; or
20 cp from Anglican Education and 10 cp from THCT202
- 30 cp from Discipline Extension or Electives
5. Exit Point
A student who has successfully completed the following requirements may exit from the course with that qualification3:
- Certificate in Educational Studies: 40 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings including at least two Education Studies units;
- Diploma in Educational Studies (Tertiary Preparation): 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings including at least four Education Studies units;
- Certificate in Liberal Studies4: 40 cp from Foundation Studies units in the Schedule of Unit Offerings;
- Diploma in Liberal Studies5: 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings including a minimum of 40 cp from Foundation Studies units;
- Bachelor of Educational Studies: 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings

In ACT, Queensland, NSW and Victoria, UNCC100 Our World, Community and Vulnerability, becomes a sixth unit in the Catholic Studies for Accreditation sequence to qualify graduates to teach in a Catholic Primary school.
Appropriate Units which will contribute to a discipline minor may be selected from the Bachelor of Arts with the approval of the course coordinator.
Students enrolled in NSW must select from approved units for their discipline minor in Year 1.

Students may choose electives in Early Childhood or Catholic Studies or, subject to Course Coordinator approval, units from the Schedule of Unit Offerings in courses offered by the Faculty of Education and Arts.
Catholic Schools Accreditation and Catholic Studies: Students who wish to teach Religious Education in Catholic schools will undertake 30 cp in Theology and 20 cp in Religious Education, as well as UNCC100, to complete Catholic Studies for Accreditation purposes. A minor or major in Catholic Studies is possible by students choosing further Theology units as electives, as advised under “Catholic Studies” in the Schedule of Unit Offerings. Students not seeking accreditation to teach Religious Education in Catholic, Anglican or Lutheran schools study alternative and/or elective units.
Anglican Strand: (QUEENSLAND ONLY) Students who wish to complete the requirements for teaching in Anglican schools must register and enrol with St Francis Theological College as well as with ACU. Two Anglican units (20 cp) will replace Catholic theology units in the Bachelor of Education course and ACU will credit these Anglican units towards the completion of the degree. Students undertaking the Anglican strand will complete two Anglican Theology units (C52072 and C52053), one Theology unit (THCT202) and two Religious Education units (EDRE101 and EDRE102) with ACU.
Lutheran Strand: (Queensland and Victoria) Students who wish to complete the requirements for teaching in Lutheran schools must register and enrol with Australian Lutheran College as well as with ACU. Four Lutheran units (40 cp) will replace Catholic Theology and Religious Education units in the Bachelor of Education course and ACU will credit these Lutheran units towards the completion of the degree.
