EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
Prior to 1 March 2016, an applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
From 1 March 2016, an applicant must also comply with the Admission to Coursework Programs Policy.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12, or equivalent:
New South Wales
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics (other than Mathematics General 2) for study in Mathematics.
Recommended studies: Visual Arts for study in Visual Arts.
Queensland
Prerequisites: English (4, SA).
Victoria
Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or 25 in any other English.
2. Definitions
'Major': 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200 level and at least 20 cp from 300 level.
'Minor': 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
Specialisation: An area of special or focused study or sub-discipline within a course, which is recognised on the student's testamur and transcript. Normally a specialisation consists of not less than one-half of the total credit points required for the award.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Pass Degree
3.1 To qualify for the pass degree, a student must complete:
240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 160 cp from:
- 2 Arts Majors; or
- 1 Arts Major and 2 Arts Minors;
- 20 cp from HUMA111 Arts Advantage and HUMA247 Community Engagement and the Civic Professional1;
- 20 cp from University Core Units;
- 10 cp from Program Core Units2; (other than HUMA111 Arts Advantage);
- not more than 40 cp from Electives3.
3.2 A student may, with the approval of the Course Coordinator, undertake cross-institutional study in order to satisfy the requirements, in whole or in part, of:
- a Major or a Minor in a language other than English; and/or
- a Major in any discipline, where the student has completed a Minor in that discipline at this University.
3.3 A student who has elected to take a combination of Education Studies and approved Arts teaching areas with the intention of undertaking studies in initial teacher education must take units that will be recognised by teacher accreditation boards. Student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- Up to 160 cp from :
- 80 cp from major in an approved ACU Arts teaching area;
- 40 cp from minor in an approved ACU Arts teaching area;
- 40 cp from Education Studies minor;
- 20 cp from University Core Units;
- 10 cp from HUMA247 Community Engagement and the Civic Professional;
- 20 cp from EDBA203 Education in History (as part of Education Studies major or minor) and HUMA111 Arts Advantage
- not more than 40 cp from Electives that may be used to extend the Education Minor to a major and/or to extend the Arts teaching areas or as Arts electives.
3.4 Students who intend to take a Bachelor of Arts followed by graduate studies in initial teacher education as a pathway to teaching are advised to consult their Course Coordinator throughout the course of their degree in order to select appropriate majors/minors and elective units.
4. Requirements for Completion of a Specialisation
4.1 Business and Communication Studies (Strathfield/North Sydney only)
A student may complete a Specialisation in Business and Communication in accordance with the following requirements from the Schedule of Unit Offerings:
Completion of:
- 160 cp from:
- a Major in Business Studies;
- a Minor in Communication; and
- a Minor in one of Computing, Economics, Mathematics, Psychology or Sociology;
or
- a Major in Economics;
- a Minor in Communication; and
- a Minor in Business Studies.
- 20 cp from HUMA111 Arts Advantage and HUMA247 Community Engagement and the Civic Professional1
- 20 cp from University Core Units
- at least 10 cp from Program Core Units2 (other than HUMA111 Arts Advantage); and
- not more than 40 cp from Electives3.
4.2 Psychology (Brisbane, Melbourne and Strathfield)
A student may complete a Specialisation in Psychology in accordance with the following requirements from the Schedule of Unit Offerings:
Completion of:
- 140 cp from Specified Psychology Units including the program core unit PSYC313 Social Psychology;
- 10 cp from COUN106 Introduction to Counselling;
- 60 cp from an Arts Minor and Electives (other than Psychology) including one Arts program core unit;
- 20 cp from University Core Units;
- 10 cp from HUMA2471Community Engagement and the Civic Professional.
Unless otherwise specified, students must complete a unit or units at an introductory level (100-level) in an approved sequence before undertaking advanced level units (200 or 300-level) in that sequence. Any additional prerequisites for individual units are shown in brackets after the unit in the Schedule of Unit Offerings.
In all aspects of the progress through the course, students will be advised by the Course Coordinator and bound by decisions of the School Committee.
