1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
NSW
Assumed knowledge: two units of English Band 4. Students wishing to undertake Mathematics as a minor require Mathematics (other than General Mathematics).
Recommended Studies: Visual Arts.
Victoria
Prerequisites Units 1 and 2 – general mathematics or mathematical methods (either). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a minor require Units 3 and 4 – mathematical methods.

New South Wales
A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English.
Students wishing to undertake Mathematics as a minor require Mathematics (other than General Mathematics).

Victoria
Minimum of Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either).
Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL/D) or 25 in any other English.
Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a minor require Units 3 and 4 mathematics methods.
2. Definitions
"Major": 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200 level and at least 20 cp from 300 level.
"Minor": 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
3. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Education Studies Units;
- 20 cp from Core Curriculum Studies Units;
- 20 cp from Curriculum Studies Electives
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 10 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit3
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
- 80 cp from 1 Major in Visual Arts;
- 40 cp from 1 Arts Minor4;
- 20 cp from other units from the Bachelor of Arts degree which may be:
- 20 cp from Visual Arts; or
- 20 cp from additional advanced units from the Minor discipline to form an extended Minor; or
- 20 cp from Arts Electives.
- 20 cp from University Core Units
Admission Requirements for the Honours Degree2
To be eligible for admission to the Honours degree a student must have
- completed 160 credit points from all units in Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts; and
- maintained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 across all units in Years 1 and 2 of the course.
5. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must:
- Qualify for admission to the Honours Degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 350 cp consisting of:
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:
- 70 cp from Education Studies
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies
- 30 cp from three Core Curriculum Program Units
- 10 cp from four Professional Experience Units5
- 40 cp from Honours Units
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree.
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree consisting of:

1 Identified Honours applicants who fulfil the admission criteria will be invited to enrol into three Honours units (40cp) in Year 3 and 4. These students will complete a 350 cp degree with EDRS401 Honours 1 (10 cp) taking the place of the Education Elective (10 cp), and two additional units EDRS402 Honours 2 (10 cp) and EDRS503 Honours 3 (20 cp).
2 Students completing the Honours degree will graduate with the Bachelor of Teaching (Honours)/ Bachelor of Arts
3 Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units. 4 Arts majors and minors must be in the discipline areas in which the Curriculum Studies units are undertaken.
5 All professional experience units must be completed.
6 Victoria.
7 20 cp are to be taken from one Curriculum Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) area which builds on the discipline minor already taken. To be eligible to enrol in a CPA sequence, a student must either have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite study prescribed for that CPA or be able to demonstrate knowledge or skills approved by the Course Coordinator as equivalent. In the case of Religious Education, the designated Theological Studies units must be completed either prior to or at the same time.
