1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.
Australian Capital Territory
Prerequisites: Major in English and two units of English Band 4
BSSS Minor in Mathematics or, If students intend to include mathematics as a discipline area, BSSS Major in Mathematics Methods, minimum B grade.
Queensland Prerequisities: English (4, SA).Recommended study: Mathematics A.
NSW
Prerequisites: Any two units of English Band 4 Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a minor require Mathematics (other than General Mathematics).
Victoria Prerequisites: Units 1 and 2 – general mathematics or mathematical methods (either). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English. Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a major/minor require Units 3 and 4 – mathematical methods. Students wishing to study Music must have AMEB Grade VI or Year 12 Practical Music.

New South Wales
A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English. Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a minor require Mathematics (other than General Mathematics).
Queensland
At least Sound Achievement in the current QCAA Authority Subject of Senior English; and
At least Sound Achievement in Mathematics (QCAA Mathematics A and/or B and/or C or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction; and
At least Sound Achievement in a QCAA Authority Science subject or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction.
Victoria
Minimum of Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL/D) or 25 in any other English. Students wishing to undertake mathematics as a major/minor require Units 3 and 4 – mathematical methods. Students wishing to study Music must have AMEB Grade VI or Year 12 Practical Music.
2. Definitions
"Major": 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200 level and at least 20 cp from 300 level.
"Minor": 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
3. Additional Approvals
All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 50 cp from Education Studies
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies
- 30 cp from Core Curriculum Program Units
- 10 cp from Education Electives
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Unit3
- (b) 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of4:
- 80 cp from 1 Arts Major;
- 40 cp from 1 Arts Minor;
- 20 cp from other units in the Bachelor of Arts degree which may be:
- a) 20 cp from advanced level units in the same discipline as the Major or Minor;
or - b) 20 cp from Arts Electives
- a) 20 cp from advanced level units in the same discipline as the Major or Minor;
- 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Units
5. Admission Requirements for the Honours Degree2
To be eligible for admission to the Honours degree a student must have
- completed 160 credit points from all units in Years 1 and 2 of the Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts; and
- maintained a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 across all units in Years 1 and 2 of the course.
6. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must
- Qualify for admission to the Honours Degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 350 cp consisting of:
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree
- 50 cp from Education Studies
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies
- 30 cp from three Core Curriculum Program Units
- 30 cp from Professional Experience Units6
- 40 cp from Honours Units
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree as stipulated above.
- 190 cp from the Bachelor of Teaching Schedule of Unit offerings requirements of the degree

1Identified Honours applicants who fulfil the admission criteria will be invited to enrol into three Honours units (40cp) in Year 3 and 4. These students will complete a 350 cp degree with EDRS401 Honours 1 (10 cp) taking the place of the Education Elective (10 cp), and two additional units EDRS402 Honours 2 (10 cp) and EDRS503 Honours 3 (20 cp).
2Students completing the Honours degree will graduate with the Bachelor of Teaching (Honours)/Bachelor of Arts (Humanities).
3Students must pass all professional experience components, including professional experience embedded within units.
4Students must choose the Curriculum Studies unit sequences they wish to study then choose their Arts major and minor, which must be in the correct discipline areas.

8Students wanting to teach Religious Education are advised to consult with their Course Coordinator to ensure they enrol in the correct sequence of units.
940 cp are to be taken from Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA) units which build on discipline sequences taken and include four CPA units across two teaching subject areas. To be eligible to enrol in a CPA sequence, a student must either have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite study prescribed for that CPA or be able to demonstrate knowledge or skills, approved by the Course Coordinator, as equivalent. In the case of Religious Education, the designated Theological Studies units must be completed either prior to or at the same time.
