1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed:

Assumed knowledge: ACT - English advanced and at least a major in mathematical applications with grades of C or higher. NSW – two units of English Band 4 and two units of Mathematics Band 4.
Queensland
Prerequisites: English (4, SA).
Recommended study: Mathematics A.
Victoria
Prerequisites: Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.
From 2016
Australian Capital Territory:
Major in English (T) minimum B grade; and
Major in Mathematics (T) minimum C grade.
Recommended studies: Science (T).
New South Wales
A minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including one in English.
Queensland
At least Sound Achievement in the current QCAA Authority Subject of Senior English; and
At least Sound Achievement in Mathematics (QCAA Mathematics A and/or B and/or C or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction; and
At least Sound Achievement in a QCAA Authority Science subject or equivalent subject from another jurisdiction.
Victoria
a) Minimum of Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL/D) or 25 in any other English.
OR
b) Certificate /Advanced Certificate /Diploma in Educational Studies or equivalent AQF level
AND
c) International applicants must also meet the English Language Proficiency Requirements as defined in the Admissions Rules.
2. Requirements for Completion of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) Degree3
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
- 320 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from the University Core Curriculum units;
- 20 cp from three Core Curriculum Program units4;
- 80 cp from Education Studies;
- 80 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
- 90 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;
- 30 cp from Electives; or
- 50 cp from : Catholic Primary School Religious Education Accreditation units, (exempt from 20 cp University Core); or
- 40 cp from : Lutheran School Christian Studies Accreditation units, (exempt from 10cp of University Core)
- Prescribed Professional Experience Units.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must:
- Qualify for admission to the Honours degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 320 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from University Core Curriculum Program units;
- 20 cp from three Core Curriculum Program units4;
- 70 cp from Education Studies
- 80 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
- 90 cp from Curroculum and Pedagogy;
- 40 cp from Honours
- Prescribed Professional Experience units
4. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree with Accreditation to Teach in Catholic or Lutheran Schools
To qualify for the degree with Honours, a student must:
- Qualify for admission to the Honours degree
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 6.0 for the duration of the course
- Complete 350 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from three Core Curriculum Program units4;
- 70 cp from Education Studies
- 80 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
- 90 cp from Curroculum and Pedagogy;
- 40 cp from Honours,
and - 50 cp from: Catholic Primary School Religious Educaiotn Accreditation units, (exempt from 20 cp of University Core);
or - 40 cp from: Lutheran School Christian Studies Accreditation units, (and 10 cp from University Core);
- Prescribed Professional Experience units.
5. Exit Point
A student who has completed the following requirements may exit from the course with the Bachelor of Educational Studies:
- 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from the University Core Curriculum units
- 20 cp from three Core Curriculum Program units4;
- 50 cp frm Education Studies;
- 80 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
- 60 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;
- 10 cp from Electives.

Catholic Primary School Religious Education Accrediation Units
Students seeking accreditation to teach religious education in Catholic Schools (all primary teachers are required to teach religious education10) will complete the following units (50 cp):

NSW/ACT
Students seeking accreditation to teach religious education in Catholic Schools in NSW/ACT are required to complete an additional sixth unit within four years of commencing employment to meet accreditation requirements to teach in Catholic schools in these areas. Fourth year students may elect to over-enrol into the following unit:

Lutheran School Christian Studies Accrediation Units
Pre-service teachers seeking accreditation to teach in Lutheran primary school s are normally required to teach Christian Studies and therefore must register and enrol with Australian Lutheran College as well as with Australian Catholic University and complete the following units (40 cp) which ACU will credit towards the completion of the degree.

1Identified Honours applicants who fulfil the admission criteria will be invited to enrol into three Honours units (40 cp) in year 3 and 4 and would not be required to complete the 10 cp unit: EDFD457 Action Research as a Reflective Practice, resulting in a 30 cp unit overload (350 cp program). Identified Honours applicants who do not wish to teach in Catholic primary schools may complete the BEd(Pri)(Hon) in 320 cp by utilising existing course electives.
2Does not lead to accreditation to teach in primary schools or early childhood settings.
3 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT), Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
4Three Core Curriculum Program units must be completed.
5 For Indigenous students undertaking the course, the unit codes will begin with A in place of the first letter of the unit codes listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings. Unit codes beginning with A are available only to Indigenous students.
6 Strathfield and North Sydney only.
7 Students not seeking to gain accreditation to teach religious education in Catholic Schools may take the following alternative units or other education units as approved by the Course Coordinator.
8 For students not wishing to gain accreditation to teach Religious Education in Catholic schools, the Course Coordinator may approve an elective unit.
9Includes 25 days professional experience.
10In most dioceses, there is an additional requirement that the teacher in a Catholic primary school is also a practising member of the Roman Catholic tradition.
