1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
1.1 To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have successfully completed –
- Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.0; and
- the required background studies in either two curriculum and teaching study areas or one double curriculum and teaching study area according to the local state registration authority requirements and relevant to the subject specialist areas available within the course.2
1.2 For applicants who have successfully completed a Bachelor degree but do not meet subject content requirements in the state/territory concerned, in special circumstances enrolment in a prescribed program of study may be approved .
1.3 Advanced standing is available for students who have successfully completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) and meet Faculty Grade Point Average (GPA) and professional experience requirements.
2. Admission Requirements for the Professional Practice specialisation
To be eligible for admission to the Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Professional Practice) specialisation, a student must have completed the first year of the course, which equates to the Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 5.0 and a demonstrated strong performance in the professional experience units in Year 1.
3 . Requirements for Completion of the Degree4
3.1 To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
Stage 1:
- 40 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies, consisting of either:
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
or - 40 cp from one teaching subject;
or - 40 cp from the Brisbane campus Curriculum Studies;
or (in special circumstances) - 20 cp from one teaching subject and 20 cp from Electives;
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
Stage 2:
- 50 cp from Core Units;
- 10 cp from Electives;
and - 20 cp from three Professional Experience Units, consisting of practicum and research in the field and sufficient to meet registration requirements.
3.2 A student who was granted conditional enrolment in accordance with Rule 1.2 must satisfy teaching subject content requirements as a prerequisite for course completion.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree with a named Specialisation in Professional Practice
4.1 To qualify for the degree with a names specialisation in Professional Practice, a student must complete 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
Stage 1:
- 40 cp from Education Studies;
- 40 cp from Curriculum Studies, consisting of either:
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
or - 40 cp from one teaching subject;
or - 40 cp from the Brisbane campus Curriculum Studies;
or (in special circumstances) - 20 cp from one teaching subject and 20 cp from Electives;
- 20 cp in each of two teaching subjects;
- 20 cp from Professional Experience Units.
Stage 2:
- 60 cp from the Professional Experience Core Units.

In Queensland, students enrolled in this course who seek to teach in Catholic schools may enrol in units from the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education course and graduate with this additional award.
3 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
