An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have successfully completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) equivalent to an Australian Catholic University GPA of 4.0 that includes the subject content prerequisites for entry into the relevant teaching content as stated in the National Programs Standards
2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree1
2.1 To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
- 170 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings including
- Professional Experience Units and professional experience days to meet accreditation requirements
3. Exit Variation
A student who has completed the following requirements may exit from the course with the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood Birth to Five Years):
- 170 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings including those units from the NSW/ACT variation;
- Professional Experience Units and professional experience days to meet national ACECQA approved accreditation requirements for early childhood teacher qualification {Birth-5} – (not leading to teacher registration under the National Quality Framework).

1 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working the Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries.
2 Includes a Professional Experience Program.
3 Includes a compulsory Professional Experience Program (PEP 4).
4 Note in addition to the two Professional Experience Program (PEP) units 1 and 3, students will complete a second and fourth PEP in: EDAR56F Arts and Technology in the Early Years (PEP 2) and EDFD56U Research as Reflective Practice for Early Years Professional Including Graduate Professional Experience 4 (Birth to Five or Five to Eight) (PEP 4).
5 An ACT/NSW variation will be dependent upon the position the national accreditation system takes in relation to accrediting (for teacher registration purposes) courses specifically aimed at early childhood. TAFE NSW currently (as at 23/08/2011) has a 4 year degree course in early childhood (birth-five years) before the national system.
6 Students who wish to teach in Catholic schools will be required to concurrently enrol in the 40 credit point Graduate Certificate in Religious Education which meets the minimum requirements to teach Religious Education in Catholic Schools. The Graduate Certificate in Religious Education also permits teachers to satisfy requirements for teaching religious education in Anglican schools. In Victoria, students should complete the following units: EDRE515 Principles of Religious Education, EDRE516 Learning and Teaching for RE (which includes sacramental education); THBS501Biblical Studies and THCT500 Foundations of Christian Faith (which also includes a module of sacramental theology). In Queensland, the ACT and NSW students should complete EDRE515 Principles of RE; EDRE524 Religious Education and the Young Child; THBS501 Biblical Studies and THCT500 Foundations of Christian Faith. Students who wish to teach religious education in Anglican schools may complete the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education. In some dioceses, the Anglican Schools Commission in conjunction with their College of Theology provide alternate units for THBS501 Biblical Studies and THCT500 Foundations of Christian Faith. Students interested in pursuing this pathway should contact the National Coordinator of the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education at ACU and seek approval for alternate units before enrolling at the theological college. Students who wish to complete the requirements for teaching in Lutheran schools must register and enrol with Australian Lutheran College as well as with Australian Catholic University. The following Australian Lutheran College units will both complete a Graduate Certificate in Religious Education and assist students towards accreditation to teach in Lutheran schools: BS8003L Bible Then and Now, CT8002L Christian Faith in Modern Context, DE8019L Lutheran Perspectives on Schooling and DE8029L Teaching Christian Studies in the Lutheran school. Students wishing to teach in Lutheran schools should contact Australian Lutheran College directly.
