Assessment is the process whereby student learning outcomes are measured and developed, feedback is given to students on their progress and final result grades are awarded.
Assessment is a core academic activity and an essential component of the learning process. Accordingly, this Policy applies to –
- all coursework units offered by ACU, including professional experience1 units, off-shore units and those coursework units completed as part of an honours or research degree2;
- students undertaking such units;
- academic and/or professional staff with responsibility for designing, administering or making decisions relating to assessment by or on behalf of the University.
This Policy and the Assessment Procedures reflect the values in the University’s Mission. The Policy sits within and relates to an existing policy framework, which includes the Academic Regulations, Assessment Procedures and the Framework for Academic Integrity and Academic Honesty Policy and Procedures3.
1 Professional experience units may have additional requirements beyond those described in this policy; any such requirements will be specified in the Unit Outline.
2 The Policy does not apply to examination of research theses, to which the Research and Professional Doctorate Degree Regulations (http://students.acu.edu.au/429790) apply.
