EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:
Assumed knowledge: two units of English Band 4.
2. Definitions
“Major”: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, normally including at least 10 cp at introductory level, at least 40 cp at 200 level and at least 20 cp from 300 level.
Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Degree1
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
1. 320 cp consisting of:
- 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
- 80 cp from 1 Major;
- 40 cp from 1 Minor;
- 20 cp from other units from the Bachelor of Arts degree which may be:
- 20 cp from advanced level units in the same discipline as the Minor making an extended Minor2;
- 20 cp from Electives;
- 20 cp from University Core Units;
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 80 cp from Education Studies;
- 60 cp from Curriculum Studies;
- 20 cp from Internship;
and
2.
- 2 Professional Experience Units; and
- 1 Community Engagement Unit.

1 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
2 Arts majors and minors must be in the discipline areas in which the Curriculum Studies units are undertaken; where two minors are undertaken, the second need not be in a Curriculum Studies area.
3 Students wanting to teach History at secondary level in NSW need to differentiate between Ancient History and Modern History. It is recommended that students majoring in History undertake at least six units of Modern History, four units of Ancient History. Students undertaking a minor in History should undertake all four units in Modern History.
4 Students wanting to teach Religious Education are advised to consult with their Course Coordinator to ensure enrolment in the correct unit sequence.
5 40 cp are to be taken from Curriculum and Teaching Studies units which build on discipline sequences already taken and include two Curriculum and Teaching Studies units in each of two teaching subject areas.
To be eligible to enrol in a Curriculum and Teaching Studies sequence, a student must either have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite study prescribed for that Curriculum and Teaching Study or be able to demonstrate knowledge or skills approved by the Course Coordinator as equivalent. In the case of Religious Education, the designated Theological Studies units provide co-requisites.
