EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:
- Four year Bachelor degree in Education or equivalent; or
- Bachelor degree in an area other than education and a Graduate Diploma in Education;
- Students who do not meet admission requirements may be eligible for special entry based on an application for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
2.1 To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Core Education Units
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from the Capstone Project Unit
- 20 cp from any Specialisation or Elective Units.
2.2 To qualify for the Master of Education degree with a named specialisation in:
- Arts Education
- Contemporary Learning
- Gifted Education
- Language and Literacy Education
- Mathematics Education
- Wellbeing and Inclusive Education
a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Core Education Units
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from the Capstone Project Unit (Project must relate to specialisation)
- 20 cp from listed Specialisation Units
2.3 To qualify for the Master of Education degree with a named specialisation in:
- Career Development
- TESOL
- Special Education
a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from the Capstone Project Unit (Project must relate to specialisation)
- 40 cp from listed Specialisation Units
2.4 To qualify for the Master of Education degree with a Thesis specialisation, a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from any approved 10 cp Elective/Specialisation Units
- 40 cp from Thesis Units
2.5 To qualify for the Master of Education degree with a named specialisation in Autism Spectrum Studies a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from the Capstone Project Unit1 (Project must relate to specialisation)
- 30 cp from Autism Spectrum Studies Units2
- 10 cp from Core Education Unit (EDCU624)
2.6 A student who has completed the Postgraduate Certificate may be granted advanced standing of up to 40 cp and will be required to complete a further 40 cp as determined by the course coordinator and approved by the Executive Dean.
2.7 A student who has completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Education with 40 cp from one specialisation may be granted a Master of Education degree with a specialisation by completing:
- 20 cp from Core Research Units
- 20 cp from the Capstone Project Unit (Project must relate to specialisation).
3. Exit Point
3.1 A student who has completed the requirements prescribed for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education may exit with that award.
3.2 A student who completes the requirements prescribed for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Autism Spectrum Studies) will only be eligible for a named specialisation if 20 credit points of ACU units have been completed.

Only available to students completing the Advanced Professional Certificate (Autism Spectrum Disorder) with the units ERASD1, ERASD2 and ERASD3 at Eastern Ranges School, Melbourne, who are eligible to apply for specified credit into the ACU MEd (Autism Spectrum Studies).
