EFTSL value of units: All 20 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.25. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:
- hold a Master’s degree in education or equivalent, with an average of credit or equivalent;
- have completed at least five years’ relevant work experience;
- supply two confidential referee reports attesting to their suitability as a candidate for the degree and their capacity to complete the thesis. At least one must be an academic reference; one may relate to the applicant’s professional experience; and
- satisfy English language requirements as set out in the Appendix to the Admission Rules for postgraduate coursework programs.
2. Definitions
“Thesis” means a substantial and focused research report of approximately 70,000 words that makes an original and significant contribution to the advancement of knowledge and practice in some aspect of the education profession.
“Published Papers” means a suggested minimum of three first authored (or co-authored papers being at least 50%) publications which are published, in press, accepted for publication, or submitted. The estimation of how many papers are necessary will depend on the overall objectives and contribution the combined body of work makes to the discipline. Papers must meet the Higher Education Research Data Collection (HERDC) requirements. It is desirable that papers are published in high quality journals. Publications published prior to enrolment in the Higher Degree by Research may not be included. Refereed published conference papers are not acceptable for inclusion in the thesis.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings.
