1. Admission Requirements
An applicant must also comply with the Admission Rules.
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent.
Prerequisities: English (4, SA).
Recommended study: Mathematics A.
2. Definitions
Major: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 60 cp at advanced level.
Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.
3. Requirements for Completion of the Degree1To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:
(1) 320 cp consisting of:
- 140 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of2:
- 80 cp from 1 Major;
- 40 cp from 1 Minor;
- 20 cp from advanced level units in the same discipline as the Minor, and
- 20 cp from University Core Units, and
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 80 cp from Education Studies;
- 60 cp from Curriculum Studies;
- 20 cp from Extended Reflective Practice;
and
(2)
- 6 Professional Experience Units; and
- 1 Community Engagement Program Unit.
4. Requirements for Completion of the Degree with Religious Education Accreditation1
To qualify for the degree with accreditation to teach religious education in a Catholic or Lutheran School, a student must complete:
(1) 320 cp consisting of:
- 140 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of
- 80 cp from 1 Major;
- 40 cp from 1 Minor;
- 20 cp from Theology units as prescribed
- 20 cp University Core Unit;
- 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
- 80 cp from Education Studies;
- 60 cp from Curriculum Studies;
- 20 cp from Extended Reflective Practice;
and
(2)
- Professional Experience Units; as required and
- Community Engagement Program Unit.

1 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) or Working with Children Check (NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries. Australian students who have lived in another country for 12 months or more must provide a police check from that country for that period.
2 Students must choose the Curriculum Studies unit sequences they wish to study then choose their Arts major and minor, which must be in the correct discipline areas.
3 Students wanting to teach Religious Education are advised to consult with their Course Coordinator to ensure they enrol in the correct sequence of units. Anglican Strand: (QUEENSLAND ONLY) Students who wish to complete the requirements for teaching in Anglican schools must register and enrol with St Francis Theological College as well as with ACU. Two Anglican units (20 cp) will replace Catholic theology units in the course and ACU will credit these Anglican units towards the completion of the degree. Students undertaking the Anglican strand will complete two Anglican Theology units (C52072 and C52053), one Theology unit (THEO228) and two Religious Education units (EDRE101 and EDRE102) with ACU.
