EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.
1. Admission Requirements1
To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:
Entry Point 1 (120 cp – Three semesters) – (Brisbane and Melbourne only)
- Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent2; and
- eligibility for nurse registration in Australia.
Entry Point 2 (80 cp – Two semesters) – (Ballarat, Brisbane and Melbourne)
- practising midwives with a Bachelor degree or equivalent3; and
- eligibility for midwifery registration in Australia.
Entry Point 3 (40 cp – One semester) – (Ballarat, Brisbane and Melbourne)
- Graduate Diploma in Midwifery or equivalent4; and
- eligibility for midwifery registration in Australia.
2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree
To qualify for the degree, a student must complete the following requirements, undertaking units from the Schedule of Unit Offerings:
- Entry Point 15
120 cp, consisting of:
- 110 cp from Core Units A and C; and
- 10 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Coordinator.
- Entry Point 25
80 cp, consisting of:
- 60 cp from Core Units B and C; and
- 20 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Coordinator.
- Entry Point 35
40 cp, consisting of:
- 30 cp from Core Units C; and
- 10 cp from Master’s level Electives approved by the Course Coordinator.
3. Exit Point
A student who has completed the requirements prescribed for the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery may exit with that award.

2 An applicant who holds a Diploma or Certificate in Nursing may apply for special admission.
3 An applicant who lacks the formal prerequisite but who is licensed to practise midwifery within the state where the course is to be undertaken may apply for special admission.
4 An applicant who lacks the formal prerequisite but who has equivalent midwifery qualifications and experience may apply for special admission.
