This unit draws together the experiences and learnings of the previous five units in Education Studies. The unit content consists of three elements: research into the context/system within which students will practise; the provision of an opportunity to make a critical study of curriculum and to apply that knowledge within their preferred teaching contexts; and assembling a digital portfolio that applies critically reflective understandings derived throughout the course and their personal vision for teaching to the schooling context in which they wish to work.
Students in this unit are typically finalising their preservice teacher education, undertaking a final professional experience, about to apply for teacher employment and seeking appointment to school. The unit takes a critical approach to supporting the preservice teacher in these pragmatic and culminating enterprises. Teaching will include a critical pedagogy framework for integrating ideas and practices. Preservice teachers will consolidate and develop an autonomous approach to reflective practice in teaching and learning experiences. Teaching as a professional will be investigated to provide students with an understanding of a variety of professional forums that inform education practice.
