Partnerships for learning are fundamental to the responsive care and education of young children. They involve establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with children, families, and colleagues, and members of the wider community. Effective partnerships involve a set of relationships and practices that are appropriate to the context. This unit explores the nature of collaborative relationships with children and families in the provision of continuity of care and in planning for and implementing play and learning experiences and provisions. It will also explore the role of observation, documentation and reflection in developing collaborative relationships within early childhood contexts. The unit’s focus on collaborative relationships in early childhood education promotes the ACU National Mission of a commitment to social justice and inclusivity in teacher education. It engenders a spirit of service to the community through establishing relationships and forging partnerships that embody respect for the dignity and care of all. This unit includes modules involving the investigation and application of Curriculum Approaches and Frameworks. It explores the evolving and dynamic nature of EC Curriculum, child, family and community perspectives, responsive curriculum – the cyclical nature of curriculum planning, planned and spontaneous experiences, strategies for teaching and learning and evaluation and reflective practice. Within this exploration of curriculum there will be a specific focus planning for emergent curriculum.
