Appendix 1 - English Language Proficiency Requirements

In the case of courses in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Theology and Philosophy, applicants whose first language is not English and who have not previously undertaken at least one full-time academic year of secondary or tertiary study where the medium of study was English will be required to demonstrate their English proficiency, as set out below.

In the case of courses in the Faculty of Education, any applicant who has not completed year 12 English (excluding ESL) or has not successfully completed at least two years of full-time secondary and/or tertiary study which has been conducted entirely in English in a country where English is the official language, will be required to demonstrate their English proficiency, as set out below.

The English language qualifications specified in this Appendix must have been achieved within two years prior to the date of submitting an application for admission to the University.

1The ACU Tertiary Preparation Program (Health Sciences) is acceptable for entry to bachelor degree courses in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
2A TAFE Diploma held by students licensed as enrolled nurses or the Occupational English Language Test (OELT) with a minimum grade of B in every sub-test is acceptable for entry into these courses.
3A student will be required to complete an IELTS test at the prescribed level for registration purposes.
4National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) is acceptable for entry to these courses.
