Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts)

Minimum duration: 4 years full-time or equivalent part-time.

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:

Assumed knowledge: two units of English Band 4.

2. Definitions

Major: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 60 cp at advanced level.

Minor: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.

3. Requirements for Completion of the Degree2

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:

1. 320 cp consisting of:

  1. 160 cp in accordance with the requirements for the Bachelor of Arts degree, consisting of:
    1. 80 cp from 1 Major in Visual Arts;
    2. 40 cp from 1 Minor3 in a second Curriculum Studies area;
    3. 40 cp from other units from the Bachelor of Arts which may be:
      1.  
        1. 20 cp from Visual Arts; and
        2. 20 cp from additional advanced units from the Minor discipline to form an extended Minor;
          or
      2. 40 cp from Electives, preferably including some Visual Arts units or units from the Minor discipline;
  2. 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
    1. 80 cp from Education Studies;
    2. 60 cp from Curriculum Studies;
    3. 20 cp from Internship;

and

2.

  1. 2 Professional Experience Units; and
  2. 1 Community Engagement Program Unit.

1 A student must also comply with the Admission Rules.
2Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld) or Working with Children Check (ACT, NSW and Vic). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries.
3Arts majors and minors must be in the discipline areas in which the Curriculum Studies units are undertaken.
4Students wanting to teach History at secondary level in NSW should understand that they need to differentiate between Ancient History and Modern History. It is recommended that students majoring in History undertake at least six units of Modern History, four units of Ancient History. Students undertaking a minor in History should undertake all four units in Modern History.
5Students wanting to teach Religious Education are advised to consult with their Course Coordinator to ensure they enrol in the correct sequence of units.

620 cp are to be taken from one Curriculum and Teaching Studies area which builds on the discipline minor already taken.
To be eligible to enrol in a Curriculum and Teaching Studies sequence, a student must either have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite study prescribed for that Curriculum and Teaching Study or be able to demonstrate knowledge or skills approved by the Course Coordinator as equivalent. In the case of Religious Education, the designated Theological Studies units provide co-requisites.
