APIS300 Muslim Sects and Systems of Thought

Teaching Organisation 3 hours per week over twelve weeks or equivalent. This unit is equivalent to 150 hours of focused learning. These may include lectures, seminars and workshops, and mixed modes.
The unit aims to provide students with a basic introduction to the ideological, political and theological divisions among Muslims. This will include a study of the origin of the earliest schools together with their developments and main ideas. The unit focuses on the most important representatives of these schools and their influence on classical and modern Muslim communities.
