Master of Clinical Nursing for Nurse Practitioners

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

  1. Bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent2; eligibility for registration as a nurse in the relevant Australian state/territory;
  2. Graduate Certificate in Clinical Nursing (or equivalent) in a field of clinical practice relevant to the student’s chosen area of nurse practitioner practice;
  3. a minimum of three years’ full-time equivalent clinical practice experience in the nominated specialty;
  4. demonstrated recent and relevant nursing practice satisfactory to the relevant Head of School, ie, a minimum of one year full-time equivalent clinical experience in an advanced practice role in the clinical area in which the nurse practitioner candidate intends to practice;
  5. current employment in an advanced practice role for the duration of the course; and
  6. a letter of support from the nurse practitioner candidate’s employer.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 40 cp from core Theory Units; and
  2. 40 cp from core Practice Units.

The core Practice Units will be based in the student’s own area of clinical practice, (ie the field in which they intend to practice as a Nurse Practitioner).

  • Drug Prescribing for Nurse Practitioners: Part 3, Teamwork;
  • Drug Prescribing for Nurse Practitioners: Part 4, Complications.
