EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12 level, or equivalent:

Australian Capital Territory and New South Wales
Assumed knowledge: ACT - English advanced and at least a major in mathematical applications with grades of C or higher. NSW – two units of English Band 4 and two units of Mathematics Band 4.

Queensland
Prerequisites: English (4, SA).
Recommended study: Mathematics A.

Victoria
Prerequisites:
Units 1 and 2 – two units (any study combination) of general mathematics or mathematical methods (either) OR Units 3 and 4 - mathematics (any). Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) Degree2

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete

  1. 320 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
    1. 110 cp from Education Studies;
    2. 70 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
    3. 80 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;
    4. 60 cp from Electives;

    and

  2. Prescribed Professional Experience Units.

3. Exit point

A student who has completed the following requirements may exit from the course with the Bachelor of Educational Studies:

  1. 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
    1. at least 70 cp from Education Studies;
    2. at least 50 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
    3. at least 50 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;
    4. up to 70 cp from Electives3;

    and

  2. 1 Community Engagement Unit.

Lutheran Strand

Students who wish to complete the requirements for teaching in Lutheran schools must register and enrol with Australian Lutheran College as well as with Australian Catholic University. Five Lutheran units (50 cp) will replace Catholic Theology and Religious units in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) course and Australian Catholic University will credit these Lutheran units towards the completion of the degree.

These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Children Check (ACT, Vic) and Prohibited Employment Declaration (NSW). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries.

4For Indigenous students undertaking the course, the unit codes will begin with A or Q in place of the first letter of the unit codes listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings. Unit codes beginning with A or Q are available only to Indigenous students.
