Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites:

  1. completion of year 12; or
  2. appropriate VET Certificate III or IV.

Australian Capital Territory
Recommended studies: English advanced and at least a major in mathematical applications with grades of C or higher.

New South Wales
Assumed knowledge: two units of English Band 4 and two units of Mathematics Band 4.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Associate Degree2

To qualify for the Associate Degree, a student must complete:

1. 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 70 cp from Education Studies;
  2. 40 cp from Curriculum Foundation Studies;
  3. 30 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;
  4. 20 cp from Electives consisting of either:
    1. 20 cp from Indigenous Studies; or
    2. 10 cp from Inclusion and Disability Studies; and
    3. 10 cp from Curriculum and Pedagogy;

and

2. 3 Professional Experience Units.

These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Children Check (ACT, Vic) and Prohibited Employment Declaration (NSW). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries.
3For Australian Indigenous students undertaking the course in mixed mode, the unit codes will begin with A or Q instead of E as listed in the Schedule of Unit Offerings. Units codes which begin with A or Q are available only to Indigenous students.
