EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements2

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent that meets the required prerequisites for entry into the relevant teaching subject methods in the state/territory concerned3.

New South Wales

In New South Wales (NSW), when seeking admission to a graduate entry initial teacher education course at ACU, you must meet the NSW Institute of Teachers’ (www.nswteachers.nsw.edu.au) subject content requirements which will be assessed upon application.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree4

To qualify for the degree, a student must complete:

  1. 160 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:
    1. 40 cp from Education Studies;
    2. 80 cp from Curriculum Studies;
    3. 20 cp from Electives;
    4. 20 cp from Research Units;

    and

  2. 3 or 4 Professional Experience Units consisting of a minimum of 100 days practicum and research in the field.

1 Availability of accelerated mode is subject to  approval of the Head of School, offering of relevant units in non-standard  study periods, and state accreditation authority requirements. Accelerated mode  is not available in Victoria and Queensland  due to accreditation requirements.
2 A student must also comply with the Admission Rules.
3 In Queensland, students enrolled in this course who seek to teach in Catholic schools may enrol in units from the Graduate Certificate in Religious Education course and graduate with this additional award.
4 Requirements for working with children: All students enrolled must have the appropriate approvals before they may enter a classroom. These are: Blue Card (Qld), Working with Children Check (ACT, Vic) and Prohibited Employment Declaration (NSW). International students must bring police check documentation from their own countries.
5 This unit should be undertaken by students wishing to teach in Catholic schools.
6 In NSW. In other States another approved elective may be substituted.
