Bachelor of Social Science (Pass and Honours)

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

1. Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12, or equivalent:

Queensland
Prerequisites: English (4, SA)

Victoria
Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English.

2. Definitions

“Major”: 80 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 60 cp at advanced level.

“Minor”: 40 cp in prescribed units in one discipline or approved interdisciplinary area, including at least 10 cp at introductory level and at least 20 cp at advanced level.

3. Requirements for Completion of the Pass Degree

To qualify for the Pass degree, a student must complete 240 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 10 cp from the Core Unit;
  2. 80 cp from the Sociology Major;
  3.  
    1. 100 cp accredited Psychology sequence2; or
    2. 80 cp from a Major in Behavioural Science or Human Resource Management. A student cannot undertake Majors or Minors in both Behavioural Science and Psychology; or
    3. 2 Minors from the Major disciplines or from Australian Studies, Counselling, Economics, Family Studies, Politics or Youth Work;
  4. 20 cp from Mission-focused units3;
  5. up to 50 cp from Electives.

4. Admission Requirements – Honours Degree1

To be eligible to apply for admission to the honours degree course, a student must have completed the Bachelor of Social Science pass degree or equivalent, normally within the last five years with at least a credit average including at least 4 of the units in the major sequence of the discipline of the honours course.

5. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree

To qualify for the Honours degree a student must, in addition to satisfying the requirements of the Pass degree, complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Honours Units, consisting of:

  1. 50 cp from the Thesis; and
  2. 30 cp from Coursework Units.
