Bachelor of Music (Pass and Honours)

BMus

240 cp (Pass)

Minimum duration: 3 years full-time or equivalent part-time.

80 cp (Honours)

Minimum duration: 1 year full-time or equivalent part-time.

Course available at: Melbourne Victoria

EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

Admission Requirements1

To be eligible for admission to the course, an applicant must have completed the following prerequisites at year 12, or equivalent:

Victoria
Prerequisites: 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in any other English and either (i) VCE Music Performance – Solo or (ii) minimum of Grade 6 AMEB or Trinity College London or equivalent; (i) or (ii) must be in area of pipe organ, piano, harpsichord or voice. Extra requirements: Interview and audition.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Pass Degree

To qualify for the Pass degree, a student must complete:

  1. 240 cp from Units in the Schedule of Unit Offerings consisting of
    1. 40 cp from Core Units in Practical Studies, completed in one instrument or voice;
    2. 40 cp from Core Units in Choral Training;
    3. 40 cp from History of Music;
    4. 40 cp from Core Units in Music Language Studies;
    5. 20 cp from Liturgy and Liturgical Music (Mission-focused units);
    6. 20 cp from either MUSC333 Practical Study 5 and MUSC334 Practical Study 6 or MUSC331 Choral Training 5 and MUSC332 Choral Training 6;
    7. 40 cp from Electives;

      and

  2. ARST232 Volunteer Experience.

3. Admission Requirements – Honours Degree1

To be eligible to apply for admission to the Honours degree course, a student must have completed the Bachelor of Music pass degree or equivalent, normally within the last five years, with at least a credit average.

4. Requirements for Completion of the Honours Degree

To qualify for the Honours degree a student must, in addition to satisfying the requirements of the Pass degree, complete 80 cp from the Schedule of Honours units, consisting of units approved by the Head of School selected as follows:

  1. 10 cp from Research Methods;
  2. 50 cp from Thesis Units; and
  3. 20 cp from Honours Electives.
