EFTSL value of units: All 10 cp units in this course have an EFTSL value of 0.125. Units with a cp value of a multiple of 10 have corresponding EFTSL values.

This is a combined degree offered through the School of Psychology within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. It comprises postgraduate professional training within Clinical or Educational and Developmental Psychology as well as a research Doctor of Philosophy.

Mode of Offering

The course will be offered on campus with lectures, tutorials and seminars. Practicums are carried out at the campus-based clinic and at external agencies.

1. Admission as a Candidate

To gain entry to the course a person must apply directly to the School of Psychology for admission to the Master program. Upon successful completion of the first year of studies, candidates may then apply to the Research Services Office for admission to the PhD program. Prerequisite requirements to be met by applicants are as follows:

  1. four years of an accredited undergraduate psychology sequence, comprising a first class Honours degree in psychology;
  2. interview; and
  3. two referee reports: one professional/personal and one academic.

An applicant with Honours IIA and will be eligible to apply for a place in the combined degree following completion of at least 80 cp at an appropriate level in the Master of Psychology.

2. Requirements for Completion of the Degree

2.1 The Master of Psychology degree may be taken in either the Clinical or Educational and Developmental Stream.

2.2 To qualify for the combined degree, a student must complete 370 cp from the Schedule of Unit Offerings, consisting of:

  1. 50 cp from Core Units;
  2. 40 cp from Practicum Units;
  3. 250 cp from the Thesis Units; and
  4. 30 cp from Specialisation Units appropriate to the relevant stream.

3. Maximum Period of Candidature

The maximum duration of candidature will normally be no longer than ten years part-time from the commencement of enrolment. The maximum period will not include any period of approved leave of absence from the PhD program.
